Teaching Assignment: Gr. P-6 Physical Education, Gr. 6 Math, Gr. 4/5 Health & Gr. 3 Library/Technology (cover)
Physical Education: Gr. P-2 receive 5 periods (175 min/cycle), Gr. 3 receive 6 periods (200 min/cycle), & Gr. 4-6 receive 4 periods (135 min/cycle). All students will gain Fundamental Movement Literacy by participating in developmentally appropriate activities under the following strands:
Students are expected to dress appropriately by wearing non-constrictive clothing and layers that can be shed when body heat rises (ie: t-shirt under a sweater). Indoor sneakers are necessary for both classroom and gym use. Students are expected to change their footwear before entering the classroom as well as exiting the school and, for safety purposes, to place their extra footwear in the designated area. When outdoor activities occur, students are expected to dress appropriately for the weather.
Math: 14 periods (540 min/cycle - including mental math) Grade 6 math includes the following strands:
Term 1: Understanding Numbers, Patterns & Equations, Multiplying & Dividing Whole Numbers & Decimals.
Term 2: Data Analysis & Probability, Angles/Polygons & Geometry, Fractions, Ratios & Percents.
Term 3: Measurement, Transformations, Investigations/Review.
Students will be writing a math assessment in early October based on materials covered up to the end of Grade 5.
Health: 2 periods (30 min each) per 6 day cycle. Grade 4/5 activities throughout the year will focus on the following strands:
Library/Technology: 2 periods (30 minutes) per 6 day cycle for Gr. 3. One period will be for Technology related activities, and the other will include: read-alouds, comprehension activities & cursive-writing practice.
Homework: Eat supper as a family, play together, read together and get 9-10 hours of sleep per night*.
*Turn off screens at least 30 minutes before bedtime to allow the body systems to relax.
Parent-Teacher Communication: Students are expected to keep organized by using their Agenda. The SRSB "Strait-Up" site will be updated regularly with homework and important upcoming activities.
