I am excited to be back for my fifth year at St. Mary's Education Centre/Academy. This year my teaching assignment consists of being the P-3 Early Literacy Intervention teacher and Reading Recovery teacher.
As the ELI teacher, I will be providing literacy support in small groups within the class. Students' progress is directly reflective of their attendance, in addition to their home support. A book will be sent home every night and it's strongly encouraged that the student read to someone each night. There will be two intakes of grade 1 (September-January and February-June), one intake of primary, grade 2 and 3) Primary ELI will run March to June. Grade 2 ELI will run November to February. Grade 3 ELI will run September to November.
This year will be the second year that Reading Recovery will be back to support grade 1 students after a number of years. Similar to the Early Literacy Intervention it supports students' literacy, but is delivered one on one and out of class. Again students' progress is directly reflective of their attendance, in addition to their home support. Reading Recovery will have two intakes each lasting twenty weeks.
A general letter has been sent home that through the year students in P-3 may be assessed to determine if the support is needed. If your child is selected for either ELI or Reading Recovery I will contact you with further details. You can schedule a meeting with me at any time during the school year between 8am and 4pm. I am also available at Meet the Teacher, and Parent/Teacher conferences. I can be reached by phone at school (522-2035), by email (email@example.com), or by sending a note in your child's agenda.
I am looking forward to an exciting year of growth and learning.
